Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Sonya McLeod, Owner of Little Mountain Homeopathy, located in Vancouver, BC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a specialist in classical homeopathy and treat a wide variety of chronic and acute health complaints. Homeopathy is a complete system of alternative medicine. I do tend to attract families and children to my practice.

Tell us about yourself

I first discovered classical homeopathy after the birth of my 2nd child in 2004, when I suddenly developed allergies that could not be treated with conventional methods. The allergies motivated me to seek out a homeopath, and soon after that, I enrolled in the Vancouver Homeopathic Academy's 4-year diploma program.

I am motivated to practice classical homeopathy because it works for so many of my clients, and so many people have been helped with my remedies. Also, the more people I treat successfully, the more people will learn about how homeopathy can help them be healthy using natural medicine without side effects.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My website ranks highly on google, so with my website, I am able to spread the word about how homeopathy can help many common health complaints safely and naturally.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Since my business is small, I don't have any employees, so there is a lot of multitasking involved, and I wear a lot of different hats.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Get a website. This is essential for businesses today, even if most of your business is word of mouth.
  2. Network and talk to as many people as possible, so you can spread the word. This can be done through social media as well as in person.
  3. Paid advertising may not work that well for a health business. Health businesses mostly thrive through word of mouth.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

If you are just starting a business, remember that it might take a while for your business to build momentum. Don't give up. Eventually, your work will pay off.
