Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Sonya Jensen, Owner of Sonya Jensen Counseling and Coaching, LLC., located in Georgetown, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I'm a couples and sex therapist. My clients are monogamous couples who struggle to communicate their needs and want clear and effective tools for enhancing communication and intimacy.

Tell us about yourself

I've been married for close to 20 years. I became a counselor to support other couples in learning to love one another, learn themselves better, and deepen their intimacy with clear, effective, and scientifically backed tools.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Never giving up and trusting in my instincts. When I started my practice, I had nothing but home and a strong determination to make things work. I studied the market and sought specializations and certifications that set me apart from the rest.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Making plans is the hardest thing about being a business owner. You make projections, set goals, and are in the driver's seat. Learning to make a choice and either learn from it or hopefully grow no matter what.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. If you have a dream to do something, at least get it started. I had no idea how to build a business, but I started with the information I had and grew from there.
  2. Keep going. If you need to take a minute and cry about it, that is fine but don't stop because it gets hard.
  3. Get a group of people around you that are or have gone through the same thing. This will help you keep things in perspective and grow.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Be your own inner mentor. Don't let your inner critic voice be the thing that shuts you down. Surround yourself with people who are where you want to be. Read their stories, ask them questions, and just be in their presence if you can.
