Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in educational toys but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Courtney Peebles, Founder and CEO of Solobo Toys, located in Williamsburg, VA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am the founder of Solobo, a Montessori-inspired educational children's toy company. I create toys that provide simple play and exceptional learning experiences. Our toys have the support and endorsement of pediatric experts, including Speech-Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Family Therapists, and Teachers. With every order, we contribute a portion to initiatives that benefit neurodivergent families. The designs of our products are personally crafted by me, Courtney Peebles, the neurodivergent owner and CEO of Solobo.

Tell us about yourself

My kids are the primary motivation for starting the business, and they continue to motivate me on a daily basis.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

One of my toys was featured in Forbes as one of the Best Educational Toys for Toddlers and Preschoolers.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

There are many challenging things that come with being a business owner, but one of the hardest ones is finding the right balance between business and personal life, mostly because so much of it overlaps!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

First, simply don't give up, even if it gets hard. Second, don't forget to take care of yourself along the way. The hours can be long, but taking care of yourself is incredibly important. Third, asking for help is a good thing, and networking with online groups is incredibly helpful!
