Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in clothing but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Rachel Budovitch, founder, and owner of Sock It To Ya, located in Halifax, NS, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Sock It To Ya! It is a retail sock and accessory store catering to all genders and ages. We carry basic and fun items that are sure to make you smile and feel good.

Tell us about yourself

I started my business in 1987 (35 years) and still LOVE What I do. I have always had a love for accessories, and this seemed like a perfect match…. I was right:). I have the nicest customers who appreciate my buying, which makes my job gratifying.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Unfortunately, my biggest accomplishment came with COVID when I developed a website with much encouragement from my husband & Daughters. It’s something I avoided, and now I can’t imagine running a business without it.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

I have been running my business for 35 years and have seen a lot of technology evolve, and I have not evolved as quickly. I am very fortunate to have two daughters to guide me and run my social media.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Love what you do/sell.
  2. Be prepared to put in the hours.
  3. Be social media savvy.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

After 35 years, I can honestly say I still love what I do and am very lucky to have loyal & capable staff who make my job easier.
