What's your business, and who are your customers?

At Sock Bro, we are an e-commerce novelty sock retailer. Sock Bro is a local Toronto-based website that is strictly online, which allows us to have less overhead and, therefore, lower prices! We guarantee our prices are lower than any competitors and our selection is higher!

Tell us about yourself

Sock Bro began with a simple goal: to provide high-quality socks at low prices. We are able to do so by operating our business solely online, reducing additional costs added to your product for overhead expenses. We provide great quality socks and 24/7 customer service for the most competitive prices on the market. Our team pushes to drive conversation through the unique design of socks. Waking up every day, going to the same job, and rotating through the same clothes or uniforms becomes a routine that feels uncontrolled.

Everyone is unique, and socks are the one thing you can control. Whether you are wearing a brand-new suit or a pair of sweatpants, a pair of socks can personalize any outfit. Socks have many purposes. Thermal socks for warmth, dress socks for business, sweat socks for sports, thin socks for dancing, and even head socks for golf clubs. They are an everyday asset that each person wears to live a comfortable life. So why not make them define you?

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Our partnership with Hudson's Bay has been huge for us. We were able to streamline operations and integrate our applications, which enabled us to sell in large quantities at a low cost and price point. Our website has seen massive growth in traffic through great reviews and word of mouth!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The economy. Things that we cannot control, such as exchange rates and gas prices, greatly impact our margins. Having to think about our business on a global scale instead of just trying to accomplish a successful small business has made the process difficult. Gas prices have increased shipping costs exponentially, and because of that, our margins have taken a hit, and we need to adjust our finances.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Creativity is key. You need to be able to be creative in marketing your business and creating a successful brand that businesses can relate to.
  2. Customer service is so important to becoming a business people trust. Ensure you always treat the customer with respect and do anything you can to keep your positive brand image.
  3. Reinvest. Make sure you focus on growth and not making a quick buck because creating the foundation is what grows businesses more than a fast profit.
