Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Krish Palaniappan, Founder and CTO of Snowpal Software Services, Inc., located in Ashburn, VA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Snowpal is a software product company and is in the business of building B2C and B2B solutions. A number of our products are already in production (and have been for years), including our Web App, iOS and Android Mobile Apps, and API Gateways. Our customers are both end users looking to manage personal and professional projects and enterprises who are looking to leverage our SaaS (API) products to build and/or enhance their platforms.

Tell us about yourself

I've been building software for over two decades, and I started doing it when I found out two things. First, when I found out that I had no other skills!, and second, when I found that I absolutely loved writing code! What motivates me each day is the relentless urge to build the next Web App, the next Mobile App, & the next API for Snowpal. And once I am done building it, I yearn to build the one after that. And the one after that. (You get the idea!).

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Going LIVE with our products. First, it was the Web App, followed by iOS and Android Mobile Apps, followed by our first API product. Then, the next API product. Then, the 5th one (our most recent one). And now, I am working with my team to build our 6th API.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Not expecting to be complimented. There's a new challenge every single day, and once you address the challenge, you shouldn't expect a pat on the back from anyone else but yourself. It doesn't matter if you are launching a new product, fixing a bug, creating a campaign video, or documenting an API. Every task is different, you've got to do most of them, and no one is going to compliment you. And you can't let any of that discourage you. You've got to keep marching on.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Start today. There's no better time. And if there was, it was yesterday and is now long gone. So, the next best time for you to start is today and right now. Do it. Take the leap.
  2. Brace yourself for a bumpy ride and a very long one. It is going to be fun, but it is also going to be tiring. Do not expect quick results.
  3. Make sure that you are absolutely passionate about what you are doing to be doing, and are 100% committed to whatever it is that you are setting out to do. There are going to be days you feel stoked about things and days when you are ready to give up, but you've got to treat both those types of days with respect and humility. And obviously, never give up. If you put your best foot forward (every single day), your dreams are more than achievable.
