Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with John Lanza, Founder of Snigglezoo, located in Los Angeles, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Our programs are designed to help parents raise money-smart kids. The Money Mammals get kids excited about money smarts and learning to "Share & Save & Spend Smart Too." Adolescents engage tweens and teens, and The Art of Allowance book and podcast help empower parents to be their kids' money-smart guides. We license The Art of Allowance Project to credit union partners nationwide to help them connect with and empower families to become money-smart members.

Tell us about yourself

My wife and I wanted to raise our kids to be money smart. The Money Mammals helped us scratch that itch and has helped many other parents do the same. I love to write, create and teach. I'm working on a new, live class to help parents called The Art of Allowance Academy. I'm really excited about reaching many more parents with my new class.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

We've managed to build a business over the last twenty years that has helped so many parents raise money-smart kids.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The business environment never stops changing, so you must always evolve your business to stay relevant and achieve your goals.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Never underestimate the importance of marketing. Building a great brand is just table stakes.
  2. Don't wait too long to make a change - even a big one - if it keeps popping up.
  3. Get to profitability as fast as you can and stay there.
