What's your business, and who are your customers?

As a business owner, there are so many things you need to know to be successful. That's why most small businesses are not growing, and the owner is not making enough money. My Expert Business Coaching, Consulting, and Training services empower business owners to grow revenue, increase profit, and obtain financing. Also, the Small Business Pro University (SBPro U) helps business owners to gain useful knowledge, access valuable resources, and make powerful connections. Our initiatives include an online community, courses, memberships, business books, networking events, and weekly Livestreams/Podcasts. We empower entrepreneurs to learn, profit, and grow.

Tell us about yourself

My first business was a paper route in 4th grade. My younger brother and I delivered the Pittsburgh Press 7 days per week for 5 years. We also started a snow shoveling business since we knew everyone and were able to hire our friends. I started this business 15 years ago after graduating from MIT with a degree in mechanical engineering, serving as a US Navy officer, working as a business manager, earning an MBA from NYU, working as a finance executive, achieving the CFA designation, and running a non-profit organization. I am motivated by being able to share my extensive knowledge, experience, and expertise with others to help them be more successful in business. I enjoy continually learning, connecting with great people, and solving challenging problems. I love being able to change people's lives for the better by helping them to achieve and exceed their business goals.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Over the past 15 years, I have worked 1-on-1 with over 1,000 business owners and taught thousands of people about business. My biggest accomplishment has been helping so many business owners grow revenue, become more profitable, and obtain financing. Key accomplishments include helping several businesses obtain financing to purchase facilities, saving a number of companies that were having cash flow issues, and empowering many entrepreneurs with the knowledge and skills to grow and make more money.

My biggest accomplishment is probably my first book, "Running Your Small Business Like A Pro" which took 5 years to complete. I am extremely happy with the end product and excited about it being a vehicle for empowering many more entrepreneurs nationally and internationally. The response from people has been tremendous, and it has already helped many business owners become more successful.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Keeping up with everything. As a business owner, there is so much to do that it is impossible to do everything, and it can be difficult to focus on the most important responsibilities. It is critical to develop your processes/systems to complete tasks efficiently and manage your time effectively.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Understand that your most important job is to market and sell your products and services.
  2. Don't be afraid of numbers and learn the language of business (accounting).
  3. Put together a written business plan, set SMART goals, and measure your progress toward achieving them.
