Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Tina Ureten, Founder and CEO of SleepGift, located in Surrey, BC, Canada.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
My business offers innovative products to protect users from electromagnetic field -EMF- radiation. EMF is everywhere on our planet, and its harmful effect on our physical and mental health is proven by science. Our customers are individuals who are aware of or learning the health consequences of non-stop EMF exposure due to new wireless technologies. Patients who are suffering from sleep deprivation, insomnia, depression, anxiety, fatigue, memory problems, and headaches can benefit from our products. Anyone who needs protection from EMF radiation, especially Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity Syndrome sufferers, can use our products. Actually, everyone should be using EMF shielding products to maintain their health and prevent long-term irreversible damage from constantly increasing EMF levels.
Tell us about yourself
My business story started with my family's own sleep problems. While searching for a safe solution for our sleep deprivation, I had to learn even a minimal level of EMF breaks down the sleep hormone melatonin. Long-term exposure to EMF brings many serious health issues, including cancer and DNA changes. Sleep deprivation itself also brings devastating irreversible conditions.
After developing special blankets for myself and my loved ones, I decided to offer them to others. My goal is to increase awareness of EMF's health effects and teach people how to use the technology with some precautions. I especially want to reach parents of young children to protect them from having lifetime health problems due to exposure to EMF from their early development stages.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment is convincing some scientists at two different Canadian universities to run research projects on my products. I have been working with them for at least two years to prove the effectiveness of our products on sleep and cardiovascular health.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Being a small business owner has many challenges these days. The number of digital marketing platforms and their algorithms change at head-spinning speed. Following those changes and adapting new strategies for effective marketing is very hard and costly for any business owner with a limited budget like me.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Be resilient and don't stick to one plan; make quick changes whenever needed.
- Select your team carefully according to your needs and keep them as long as you can.
- Share the ownership & profits with your employees to increase your chance of long-term success.
