Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in the wellness industry, but not sure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Michelle Hotaling founder of Michelle's Sanctuary. She is a sleep-hypnosis, meditation guide, and content creator.

Tell us about all your different offerings?

I create sleep stories and meditations to help anyone struggling with sleep, stress, anxiety or worry. My mission is to use the imagination to self-soothe and create the life you most desire.

Tell us about yourself. What first got you started working on your business, and what motivates you each day to do what you do?

I struggled with insomnia and anxiety for many years working as a performer. I discovered meditation, specifically for sleep, and over time it completely changed my life. I thought that if I could create content that was even more immersive and customizable, that people could experience the same changes I did. Every day I get to work and think if I can gift one person a night of great sleep, it's worth it.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

To me, it's been the stories from listeners able to get off sleep medication, able to pass a test without anxiety, able to wake up and feel refreshed, able to take time for self-care. My biggest accomplishment can't be quantified, because what matters most is the feeling that I am helping others help themselves.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The constantly changing landscape. While I've been a creator for years, being a small business is more challenging when apps like Calm have big budgets and can come in and push out the competition. But my listeners are very loyal, and I have managed to keep my content free for them.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Find something you want to do every day, discover a niche or something that not a lot of people have done, and find a business that effectively solves a problem.

What are some of the things you put in place to maintain a healthy work/life balance?

I stopped thinking of work as I did to have fun moments. Instead, I saw the kind of day I wanted to have and imagined how I could run a business that gave me the freedom to live my life and prosper. So that I could spend my mornings in the park with my dog or take a spontaneous trip and bring my work with me when I desired.
