Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kimberley Maugeri, Co-Founder of Skop, located in Manhattan Beach, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Skōp is a data analytic connected Pilates reformer that focuses on form. We use patent-pending technology to give real-time form feedback cues to the user to help make sure they are working out correctly! We are the first connected reformer to have this type of technology and the first reformer to compact to be smaller than a treadmill when not in use.

Our customers are Pilates lovers and anyone who wants to stretch, move, and feel better. Our machine is a modality for pre/postpartum movement, injury rehabilitation, high and low-intensity workouts, stretching, and more.

Tell us about yourself

Before my business, I was a certified athletic trainer and had my own chiropractic office specializing in sports medicine and pre/postpartum care. I was teaching group classes at a Pilates studio. With all of this knowledge, I felt really out of control as an instructor. I felt like it was difficult for me to teach a class to so many different levels and give everyone the attention they needed. This motivated me to work on Skōp as I felt like it was something I wanted for myself and would be an advancement in the industry. What motivates me each day is knowing what is possible for Skōp. For every user to have access to content, rehabilitation, and more knowledge in real-time on how they can improve and prevent injury, I think it would be life-changing!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

We just launched our founder pre-sale! Getting to that milestone is my biggest accomplishment! For a $100 deposit, our founders lock in our pre-sale price of $2700 versus $3500 with three-year financing.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things that come with being a business owner is the feeling that you should be able to do it all! Sometimes it is okay to admit things are getting a little overwhelming and ask for help.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Listen to everyone, but you don't have to listen to everything everyone says.
  2. You're the only one in control of how hard you work!
  3. Taking care of yourself should be at the top of the to-do list to grow a business!

Is there anything else you'd like to share?
