Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Sara Lambrinos, Owner and CEO of Sites by Sara, located in Salt Lake City, UT, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Sites by Sara. Our customers are small to medium-sized businesses and entrepreneurs who contact us to create a Web presence for them or to enhance their current Web presence needs. We provide web design & development, graphic design, SEO, social media marketing, digital ads management, website maintenance, and more.

Tell us about yourself

I'm a business owner who is passionate about empowering entrepreneurs to follow their dreams and reap the benefits of having a professional, modern website that is optimized for their chosen search terms and that effectively represents what their company brand is all about. I love watching my clients' businesses grow. I built my first website in 1999 and opened Sites by Sara full-time in the summer of 2007. It's been a wonderful venture, and I wouldn't trade it!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I think more than the accolades received, what lights me up the most is being able to deliver on our promises in a timely and efficient fashion. We have dialed in our process and procedures such that we are able to produce beautiful, functional, and secure websites that our clients love. We are able to quickly respond if anything becomes unstable, and we are proactive in monitoring the security of our maintained websites. We take pride in the work we deliver and stand behind our word.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

I have the unique experience of helping entrepreneurs and very small businesses just starting out, as well as seasoned businesses and companies that have been very successful over the years. The hardest thing is seeing people struggle to get found online. We build our websites with as much "SEO-juiciness" as we possibly can, but it's really up to the client to invest in continuing to get more visible if they want to rise to the top of search results. It's a hard thing to watch a beautiful site with great potential get 'ignored' by the businesses that paid to have them built. I encourage them to blog, to get active on social media, and to either invest in SEO services or actively do what they can to build citations and backlinks to their website - but if they are unable or unwilling to do so, there's really nothing more I can do to help them.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Know the competition but don't worry about it, there is enough for everyone who is really good at what they do.
  2. Tell the truth.
  3. Do your best and let go of the outcome. If it's meant to be, it will be.
