Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in jewelry but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Romy Devack, founder and CEO of Sincerely Jewelry, located in Miami Beach, FL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are a small female-founded fine custom jewelry brand that uses our customer's handwriting and signatures to design unique one-of-a-kind pieces.

Tell us about yourself

I grew up in sunny South Florida and moved to Los Angeles after graduating college to pursue a career in fashion, specifically as a stylist. I had the opportunity to work with incredible celebrities, designers, and top publications over the course of 10 years and am forever grateful for the knowledge and experience I gained but decided to make a change after unexpectedly losing my father to cancer in 2014. I needed something new and fresh, something that brought me happiness and had meaning, and that's how Sincerely Jewelry was born. It all began when I designed my first necklace, my dad's signature in 14k gold and diamonds, as a gift for my mom's first birthday without my dad. Slowly but surely, friends and family started requesting pieces of their own, and I realized I had something. Something that not only allowed me to design unique and beautiful, one-of-a-kind pieces but also allowed me to honor my father and connect with others who had gone through something similar. To this day, this is by far my favorite part of the business. I am so grateful for the community that I have built and for the ability to remember my dad in such a special way.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Honestly, starting my own jewelry business without any knowledge of the manufacturing process and/or running my own business in general. I was 29 years old and clueless, but it meant so much to me to figure it out that I did just that. I found packaging out of Italy; I built out a new website, I spent hours upon hours downtown looking for people that I could trust to help create these incredibly special pieces for my customers. But I did it, and I continue to learn and grow, and for that, I am so so proud. Also, Sincerely was featured in Forbes, and I'm pretty proud of that also!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things for me is the pressure that I put on myself to be successful. I have to remind myself that I am a small business and that not every day is going to be a great day, but that's okay. The most important thing is that I am doing what I love and that I am bringing joy to other people with the pieces that I design for them. Everything else will naturally fall into place.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Where there is a will, there is a way!
  2. Surround yourself with people that support you and want to see you succeed!
  3. Believe in yourself. You've got this!
