Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food services but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Susie Lynn, Founder of Simply Plate Chef, located in Louisville, KY.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Simply Plate Chef is a catering, meal delivery, and personal chef service. All of my dishes are homemade, preservative-free, and served in generous portions. I always try to use locally grown products whenever possible. Many of my customers are busy working families who want healthy meals while they are on the go. I also cater corporate luncheons, school events, parties, rehearsal dinners, and small weddings.

Tell us about yourself

I have always had a passion for cooking meals for my family and friends over the years. Fortunately, I was able to expand this passion into a business a few years ago and now get to meet and serve all different kinds of people. I love what I do, from making a special meal in someone's home for an anniversary party, delivering a week's worth of meals to an overworked mom, or giving a company's employees something different to feast on while they work.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

With the undeniable help of God, I was able to take an idea that turned into a dream and then a vision that is now a reality in the growing business that I am able to run in my very own commercial kitchen!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Right now, I am a one-woman operation. Keeping my supplies in stock and meeting the needs of my clients can be challenging.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. If you have an idea, don't be afraid to take the next step and research the possibilities. That includes seeking the advice and wisdom of others who are doing what you would like to do.
  2. Don't dwell on your mistakes! That's part of the learning process and growing a business.
  3. If you get the opportunity to turn your passion into a business, don't forget to be thankful every day!

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

The following quote hangs in my kitchen to remind me every day, "Figure out what you love to do, what God gave you a heart to do, and then do it for His glory" Rick Warren.
