Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Simon D., founder of Habit Reframe, located in Montreal, QC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I'm a writer, coach, and group course moderator. My customers are the neurodivergent type who seek ways to better themselves yet can't stick with conventional self-help.

Tell us about yourself

In 2019, on a whim, I posted what "the Habit Reframe Method" as a comment to a Reddit post asking about how to beat procrastination. The response was super encouraging, leading me to clean it up and offer it as a free PDF. Since then, I've grown my email list with my writing while providing a group program and some one-on-one sessions. I'm motivated by content creation. I love to write and love it when people find useable value in my ideas—when it leads to tangible change—not just sparks of inspiration that fade. My mission is to foster as much self-compassion and self-love in my readers (something that is universally missing given how hard we can be on ourselves) because that is the essential foundation for any self-improvement journey.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My Group Accountability Program. It's a well-oiled machine at this point and gets some pretty sweet results. :)

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Being impatient. Wanting to start 100 things but then run out of time in the day.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Have a daily routine, well-tuned through lots of trial and error.
  2. Learn by doing. Seek constructive criticism and useable data.
  3. Rework your marketing to frame the customer as the hero, not you (you are the guide). Start by reading "Building a Storybrand" by Donald Miller.
