Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Walter Woodman, a member of shy kids Inc., located in Toronto, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are a band that makes films, or filmmakers that make songs. People should want to support us because we make people smile.

Tell us about yourself

Patrick and I met at university, singing a cover of Sir-Mix-A-Lot's "Baby Got Back" and winning a talent show. From there, we recruited Matt and several other collaborators to help create art that is subversive. Taking conventions and messing them up... to have fun and also hopefully challenge and amuse.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Being able to employ other artists and help them create meaningful work that gets recognition.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Keeping all of our receipts.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Don't be boring.
  2. Don't harm the planet.
  3. Don't poo-poo technologies you don't yet understand.
