Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Sherry Hole, Founder of The Canadian Institute of Integrative Nursing Development & Education Ltd., located in Truro, NS, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are an accredited nursing organization that offers heart-centered continuing education to nurses who are ready for a mind shift that supports a new way of being and a new way of nursing. We see and hear the moral distress that nurses are experiencing, and it is not okay! Drawing upon theories and principles of holistic nursing and nurse coaching, as well as our own collective experiences, has provided the foundation for quality education and mentorship.

Our programs and community of like-minded nurses serve to support other nurses in enhancing either their bedside or independent practice. Enhanced self-awareness practices pave the way for positive lifestyle changes that support the care of the mind-body-soul.

Tell us about yourself

We are three nurses who have been drawn together as if by divine design and a soul–calling. Five years after meeting, we still find ourselves reflecting on the evolution of our kinship with gratitude and awe. It became apparent very early on why we were pulled together. We shared a vision: a deep, undeniable yearning to nurture a new way of being for both ourselves and for others, to share our passion for whole health and well-being within the world — empowering the 'Future of Nursing.'

Our hearts wanted to ease the suffering of nurses worldwide and to provide the support and tools needed for new nurses to show up with resiliency and awareness that compassion and caring start first within themselves. A much-needed shift had to occur from a state of simply doing and surviving to one of flourishing and thriving. A seed was planted in our hearts…a seed that would lead us to a new way of knowing, doing, and being.

We greet each day with enthusiasm and excitement as we watch our community grow. We are filled with gratitude each time a graduate shares with us that their lives have changed for the better We hear from our graduates on a regular basis and feel such gratitude when they share how much their lives have changed and how they are 'falling in; love with nursing again'!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Knowing that what we offer is valued, needed, and being eagerly embraced by so many nurses.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Walking our talk! We are all about wholeness and balance in both our personal and professional lives. We are passionate about what we do and believe supporting our students is of utmost importance. It takes concentrated effort and intention to ensure that we maintain balance in our own lives, too!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Don't rush-Take your time.
  2. Don't grow too big too fast.
  3. Collaborate! Find your people, and get to know their strengths and desires. Use these to build a solid team that is dedicated and feels valued.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Start where you are at! Perfection is unattainable, and trying to be perfect is limiting. This is our fifth year together, and we are always growing and shifting and changing.
