Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Shelley Loving, Owner of Shelley Can Help, located in Van Alstyne, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I'm a certified nutrition chef that teaches online healthy cooking classes to corporations. I also offer online classes and courses for individuals to learn techniques for cooking healthier in their own kitchens.

Tell us about yourself

In 2014, my 41-year-old husband had a massive heart attack and almost died. That changed us forever, and I was on a mission to get him healthy. I leaned into food, but there wasn't enough information on the internet, so over the course of 4 years, I went to 2 nutrition schools and 1 culinary school. As I was cooking us healthy meals from what I was learning, I watched not only my husband heal, but I was also feeling better than ever. That's when my light bulb turned on, and I decided I needed to share this valuable information with more people.

In 2018, I created ShelleyCanHelp.com. I now teach others how to use food, real simple whole foods, to improve their health and feel their best. What motivates me is to see how people feel when they learn my techniques and faithfully apply them to their own lives. It's transforming, and that's what keeps me going. I want to prevent health scares as my husband had. I want to save lives, and food can do that.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Since 2018 I've been on a fierce mission to help others. Help them learn how to eat that will optimize their overall health. I've done this through online courses, live cooking events, group coaching, and virtual corporate events all over the world. But I have to say; my biggest accomplishment is my cookbook. I promised myself in 2018 that within five years, I would publish a cookbook. It's 2022, and my cookbook will be published on October 7th. My heart, my passion, and my message are all in the book. It's full of my love through anti-inflammatory recipes.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

It's all up to me. It's so much more than creating healthy recipes. There's marketing, accounting, social strategy, emails, continuing education, endless networking, and a very messy kitchen. There is no one to rely on. There is no marketing firm or film crew. The hardest thing is finding balance. Where are the boundaries between energy, time management, and mental space? It's a juggling act for sure, but it's so worth it.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Consistency. Do something every day to deepen your business.
  2. Video. Get your face out there. Let people see, hear, and know you.
  3. Be authentic and transparent. If you aren't relatable, no one will really know, like, and trust you.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

My cookbook is called What's On Your Fork?! and can be found on Amazon on October 7, 2022. Learn more through this link.
