Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Shauna Van Mourik, CEO of Shauna Leigh Artistry, located in Cambridge, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Shauna Van Mourik is a copywriter & content strategist from Southern Ontario, Canada, who supports service-based entrepreneurs: primarily coaches, mentors, and influencers, to level up their content & to copywrite so they can not only save time and convert at a higher rate but also feel good doing it!

She focuses on "the 2 icities": Authenticity & Simplicity! These principals work in tandem because as you show up more authentically, life & business becomes simpler. As life & business become simpler, you can show up more and more authentically!

Being true to yourself and keeping things simple also helps you to stand out in the sea of sameness so that you can catch the attention of your dream clients - which is no small feat in today's online market.

Tell us about yourself

I've always been a writer but was told that it wasn't a lucrative career and that was actually getting into the field as a career was akin to becoming some sort of celebrity. Thinking outside of the box and walking my own path wasn't new to me when I stepped out and did my own research, which provided me with the motivation to realistically pursue my dreams. Now that I've burst through that false belief, I aspire to empower others on their own version of that inspiring path. This is why I've chosen to elevate the voices of like-minded coaches, mentors, and influencers who are just as excited as I am to see their clients succeed in all that they do!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I've always believed that life and business are intricately intertwined, so I must say that my biggest accomplishment as a business owner is to step into the life of my dreams (flowing between my roles of entrepreneur, thought leader, mother, wife, etc.) without the limiting beliefs that come with if/then parameters. What I mean is that your dream life can (and likely does) exist within the context of your current life's situation if you learn where to look. Learning and practicing this skill has created a life of abundance and allows me to provide an exceptionally fun experience for those who have previously had a rough time with their copywriting and content marketing.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

I would have to say that the hardest thing that comes with being a business owner is wanting to help all of the people. Accepting that some people are simply not ready for the help you have to offer is a necessary part of business ownership. I'm the kind of person who would give it away if it wasn't what put bread on the table, but I've also learned that consumers invest more of their time, energy, and effort into something that they've additionally invested their finances in. It can be a sort of conundrum at first but definitely an important lesson to learn.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Step through your fears & courageously show up as your authentic self.
  2. Establish a solid network/community of business besties/collaborators/cheerleaders.
  3. Have fun & never stop learning!
