What's your business, and who are your customers?
Shatterbox & Big Spoon is an Artisan Coffee Roaster and Gourmet Soup Company. We have 2 locations. One is a specialty deli and cafe, and the other is our roaster hub and coffee shop. Our local office crown and residents in the area are our customers, as well as a few wholesale customers in the Victoria area.
Tell us about yourself
I have always been interested in the Culinary arts, and our love for quality coffee is what started us in this business. We also have a commitment to making the industry more sustainable and eco-friendly. We find a way to disrupt the industry to make it cleaner and sustainable for our community and staff. Ethical trading is equally important to us, and creating an employee-owned company that pays living wages to all is a motivating factor in our day.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Pivoting our business during the pandemic is our greatest achievement.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Learning how to let go and take time for ourselves.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Make sure you can find something you truly love. Take days off no matter how much there is to do. Except for change as a must, it is not an option because sometimes your business has a mind of its own and takes you down a slightly different path than you had expected.
