Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Sharon Vornholt, Owner of Innovative Property Solutions LLC, located in Goshen, KY, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a real estate investor, podcaster, blogger, and coach. I love helping real estate investors build a profitable business by specializing in off-market deals. I am also passionate about empowering and educating women who are interested in real estate investing. I am best known as a marketing and branding expert for real estate investors and my expertise in probate investing. I have helped hundreds of people refine their brands and create customized marketing plans that work no matter what their investment strategy is.

Tell us about yourself

Growing up, my dad was a general contractor, and I was always tagging along on job sites. This led me to real estate investing and, eventually, my love of taking distressed properties and turning them into nice homes for other people. Today I love teaching others how to build a business through effective marketing and branding.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I am most proud of helping to empower women so that they have a place in this business which has traditionally been a male-dominated field. I think my podcast, Let's Talk Real Estate Investing, has been instrumental in doing that.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Being an entrepreneur can be lonely if you don't surround yourself with like-minded people. Find your people and stay active in those groups. Networking will build the "know, like, and trust" factor for your business.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. You must make marketing and branding a priority even when you're just getting started. Marketing is how you get leads, but branding is why they choose YOU. You simply cannot be the best-kept secret in town and succeed in any business.
  2. Success comes from mastery. Focus on "that thing you're good at, and you love to do" and master that before moving on to other things. As entrepreneurs, we tend to have "shiny object syndrome." We have so many ideas, and we are easily distracted. You want to become the trusted expert in your niche. That should be your goal. "The riches are in the niches."
  3. Create some kind of content to put out into the world. It helps build your brand and sets you up as the expert. It can be as simple as creating videos using your smartphone and then uploading them to YouTube.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

There are so many places you can learn for free, so you should start there. There are blogs, podcasts, and videos created by trusted experts, to name just a few. However, I want to encourage you to spend some money on your education and hire a coach as soon as you can. You will go further and much faster with a coach. It's important to invest in yourself. (All high earners still have coaches.)
