Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Ryan McManus, CEO and Founder of SHARE Mobility, located in Columbus, OH, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

SHARE Mobility is a technology company that works with manufacturing, logistics, and other companies with front-line workers. SHARE helps them offer transportation as an employee benefit.

Tell us about yourself

I have been an entrepreneur for a little more than a decade and have always wanted to be involved with building businesses. I got involved in the auto industry because I saw how car ownership was changing and how new technology was creating this whole movement around mobility. I found there were a lot of people left out with no transportation options. We wanted to build a mobility company to bring transportation to those who needed it. Transportation is the #1 barrier to work, and there is a huge need for what we are doing.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Post-Covid Recovery! In one day, we lost 96% of our revenue due to COVID, so we had to rebuild the business. We built back bigger and better in less than a year with a clear focus on front-line workers.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Adapting to the changing workforce environment. As a result of COVID, the current workforce looks different than before. Team members can live in different cities and states, with technology joining us together. Today's workforce has the choice of either working remotely or in office environments resulting in a great work experience and a better life balance.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Become obsessed with the problem and not your product or service. The right solution can change as you work on the problem, and your customers' needs can evolve.
  2. Plan first. Spend time building a strategy, building OKR's and getting everyone on the same page.
  3. Never stop selling. As the leader of the bus. You have to be selling.
