Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal and business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Shannon Claire, a brand strategist, international brand photographer, and life & business coach based in Mechanicsburg, PA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Although I serve highly successful, driven women from all over the globe in multiple ways, my mission is the same across the board - to help my clients build unforgettable brands and live extraordinary lives. I do this through coaching, mentorship, and transformational brand photoshoots that elevate my clients' confidence and brand.

Tell us about yourself

I always loved photography, so turning my passion into a business in my early 20s just made sense. I was a young mom, and photography allowed me to work on my own terms while doing something I loved. As time went on, I dove deep into my own personal brand and personal growth, which led to the evolution of my business into serving women who were also entrepreneurial. I'm a mom of four, so providing for my children's needs and being an example to them of what is possible in their lives drives me on days when I want to give up. Freedom is also a core value of mine, and being an entrepreneur has allowed me the freedom in my life that I crave. Finally, seeing my client's lives change in such profound ways through working together is truly fulfilling!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Through my entrepreneurial journey, I have survived recessions, a pandemic, and an abusive marriage of 15 years. The fact that I was able to build a global brand and am still standing and stronger than ever through these trials is my biggest accomplishment.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The ups and downs and uncertainty of entrepreneurship can be A LOT to deal with. I think it's important to surround yourself with peers, so you know you are not alone in your struggles.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Invest in building your brand early on. I'm talking about so much more than your logo and colors... Have a solid brand strategy, and know what makes you unique and what you can do to enhance your client's experience. When everyone else zigs, zag, be different, not a carbon copy of your competitors.
  2. Build your network. Focus on building relationships and sending referrals to others, and it will come back to you tenfold.
  3. Don't be afraid to invest in yourself. Make sure you set money aside from every sale to invest in your personal growth and education.
