Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Shanna Kabatznick, founder of Shanna K, LLC., located in Midlothian, VA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am a speaker/trainer and consultant. My customers are sales professionals that want to sell more without being salesy. We are all in sales, but it starts with building relationships and getting to know your prospects before asking them to buy something.
Tell us about yourself
I left corporate in 2018 because I believe in what I do. By providing adequate training to others and watching them get excited about what they do! I love seeing how, after working with me, either as a 1-1 client or attending a presentation, they take what I shared and apply it!. It is exciting to watch the transformation and their growth.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I think my biggest accomplishment is not giving up. Being an entrepreneur is exciting, but it is also scary, and it takes guts to keep going and believe in what you do and the difference it makes.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Having to make unknown decisions. Maybe you have an idea and want to implement it, but you are not sure it will work. You have to step out of your comfort zone so you can grow and learn.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Be clear on what you want to accomplish-do in the research, and understand your market.
- Have the financial support you need. Make a budget and be realistic. We all start with passion and find our purpose, but we need to be profitable to have a business.
- Once you have decided to start, surround yourself with positive people and other people in business that understand the ups and downs.
- Use free resources if you can, like SCORE, SBA, and others. There are lots of resources for new businesses that can support you as you get started.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
Running your own business can be scary, and there are many ups and downs, but if you believe in what you are doing and remain focused on your goals, then don't give up. You may stumble or may have to change things up, but don't let those obstacles deter you from why you started in the first place.
