Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Shana Washington, Founder of Shana Speaks Life, located in Dallas, TX, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
My business consists of empowering and coaching. I help women increase self-love, build confidence and clarify their vision to bring their dreams to life.
Tell us about yourself
I started out mentoring high school girls for 10+ years. As they evolved into womanhood, they still wanted a sense of community, sisterhood, and coaching as they navigated through life. I saw a reason to start working with adults as a result.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Journeying with girls, I met their 8th-grade year and got invited to their college graduation. To me is such an honor and privilege to walk along with them and for them to still find value in what I do.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Wearing too many hats. I only utilize interns that are either high school or college students over the summer to provide them with opportunities and extra income. I believe in pouring into the next generation. Because I do things based on an individual's income, I don't always see the cash flow. However, I believe everyone deserves to see themselves in a better light.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Have a plan, but also be okay with the plan not working out or with you having to make changes. Plan to fail at some things, but out of that, failure is birthed beauty. Take chances on hiring people, but don't be afraid to let them go if they don't work out. It will damage your business and hinder its growth.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
Trust the process. You had the dream, and now you are bringing it to life. Even on your worse day, remember your WHY, and everything will happen exactly how it's supposed to if you keep going and get it you all.
Where can people find you and your business?
If you like what you've read here and have your own story as a solo or small business entrepreneur that you'd like to share, then please answer these interview questions. We'd love to feature your journey on these pages.
