Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in jewelry but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Rebecca Keating, owner of Shaman Sisters, located in Mississauga, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Shaman Sisters is a crystal and gemstone jewelry store in Port Credit Mississauga, a global online store, a community, and a healing center.

Tell us about yourself

I was working as an RN and Director of Care and was very burnt out. I was using crystals to keep me grounded and protected, and I started making healing crystal jewelry for health professionals. I was studying Shamanism and offering energy healing. I wanted to step away from the conventional medical model to offer healing in a more holistic way. I started Shaman Sisters as a hobby, and in a few years, I was able to leave nursing and focus on growing Shaman Sisters. I am motivated to assist with the healing and ascension of humanity through Shamanic Practices, Ceremony and Sound Healing. I am a guardian of crystals, and it is important to me to source them with conscious intention and with reverence for the crystalline beings. I handpick all of the crystals in our shop with great care. Our environment keeps them in the highest frequency, and they are cleansed and activated before they go to their new homes.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Opening up a physical crystal shop, healing center, and connecting to a beautiful community online and in-person. Writing a book on Shamanic Practices in 2020, my book, "The Ultimate Guide to Shamanism, was published in 2021.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Navigating all the tasks that need to be done while maintaining personal balance and self-care.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Starting is sometimes the hardest part; once you get past starting, things will unfold as you learn and grow.
  2. Invest in getting assistance with things that can be delegated. Sometimes we want to do everything, but it is not productive.
  3. Invest in quality products, packaging, website, etc., as you can, as the returns are always worth it.
