Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in training and education but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Dilys Tong, Co-Founder of sew be it studio, located in Toronto, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Sew be it studio is a sewing studio where we offer sewing classes and workshops for juniors, teens, and adults. Our customers are anyone who has an interest in DIY, whether it's fashion, accessories, or home decor.

Tell us about yourself

I started the studio in 2015. There was nothing in the city that offered sewing classes, and I wanted a place where I could share my passion with people who were interested. I love going to the studio every day because we have some amazing students at the studio, and I often get my design inspiration from them.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Build a loyal and supportive clientele.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Learn to balance your work and home life, and say no without feeling guilty.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Don't focus on the small things; look at the big picture.
  2. Treat people with respect and kindness.
  3. Always give yourself a day off where you do something that has nothing to do with the business, and that means no checking email too.
