What's your business, and who are your customers?
Second Son Woodworks is a custom furniture maker with a focus on creating educational woodworking content on social media.
Tell us about yourself
I started Second Son Woodworks back in 2016 when I was finishing up my undergrad in Seattle. My Seattle home needed a table, so my roommates and I got together and made one. Later that year, I decided to start building tables on the side. Since I am the second son of five kids (an even bigger family now), I called it Second Son Woodworks. First, I started an Instagram to share builds. Then in 2018, I released my first YouTube video. Since then, the channel has gained close to 4 million views and has over 16 thousand subscribers.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Just hanging in there and persevering through the hard times. Having a business and making an income is difficult. I am still figuring it out, but that's all part of it, and every day you continue working for your business, that is an accomplishment.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Being responsible for the big decisions and the big bills. It is all on you.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Start slow.
