What's your business, and who are your customers?
Second Season Photography focuses on maternity, newborn, and family photography! My main focus is motherhood; I see so much beauty in it and want Mamas to see it themselves. The schedules, the chaos - it all feels heavy when you're in the thick of it. My job is to give you something you can look at and think, "This is all so worth it."
Tell us about yourself
I started taking photos because I had three babies! I had gone to photographers that didn't seem to capture their true personalities, and the photos felt so lifeless. I would follow them around with my camera and try to get their little smirks, chubby hands messy hair on camera.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Quitting a job that I hated! I was always so sure it was too late to take a risk and change careers. Something finally clicked, and I bet on myself, and here I am!
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
It's all so personal. This business is like my fourth child, I've put so many hours into it, and I feel guilty when I take a day off. Like, what could I be doing to make it better right now? Why am I just sitting on the couch?
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Education! Never, ever stop learning.
- Unfollow local photogs that don't inspire you. The comparison game sneaks up on you, and it's so hard on your self-esteem.
- There's room for all of us! We can share information, grow friendships, and leave the competition out of it. It's hard sometimes but, deciding to be genuinely happy for other people in the business is key to growing and keeping a healthy mind.
