Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal and business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Sebastian Little, Founder of Sebastian Little Performance, LLC., located in Southington, CT, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Sebastian Little Performance (SLP for short :) is a coaching and consulting firm that specializes in leadership, performance, and culture. We focus on high-performing leaders (affectionately named super-achievers) and teams to embrace chaos and move through the mess of life.

In my experience, our biggest messes lead to our greatest discoveries, our own strength, and power. To get there, we support our clients to channel their unique values, clarify goals, and define their processes in order to thrive.

We work with high-performing ''super-achievers'', the leaders, entrepreneurs, and athletes that often find themselves saying, "enough isn't enough."

Tell us about yourself

My upbringing was characterized by living in worlds where I didn't feel I fully belonged. I blended to fit in, but I was lonely because I stood out. I made the early decision, ''if I was going to stand out, I wanted to be the very best''. So I performed. I got good grades, was a model community citizen, won leadership awards, played football at a prestigious Ivy League school (Go Bulldogs!), and got a great first job at a boutique consulting firm. The high bar of achievement paid off, and my well-developed performance muscle yielded the intended results I had desired.

But enough was never enough. There were always more challenges to conquer and more impact to make. With the constant drive for more came burnout at work, the end of a long-term romantic relationship, and a big ole mess about who I was and what I represented. I realized I was using performance and excellence as a currency for love, acceptance, belonging, and worthiness.

I coach because I believe it was what I needed for so many years. At the core of what I do is create spaces for humanity, self-expression, belonging, and play. I get to reflect on others' greatness and support them in dreaming and scaffolding their highest vision.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Building my team! I currently have a team of 4 folks that work with (always with, never for) me and a larger network of coaches and consultants that I contract with. I am inspired by who they are, how they lead, and what they contribute daily.

I am beyond proud of what we've built - and even more so of what we're building. Being a teammate is one of my favorite things and highest honors.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Working ON the business while working IN the business. I've found this paradox challenging to manage.

In other words... Generating ideas and future vision vs. executing and working on them. There is an energetic push and pull that never feels just right. It'sIt's the tension that is essential but the tension can also be a stressor.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Identifying your essential greatness. Doing the internal work to understand who you are at your highest, best, and most effective self. When we're connected to our unique value, we can authentically and sustainably offer our gifts to the world.
  2. Design your business to support your life, not the other way around. Knowing the minimum inputs to your life (income, clients, production, etc.) allows you to build your business to serve you rather than you serving it. This is where action meets vision as you build the tools, programs, and bundles that will allow your business to scale and grow.
  3. Stay in the realm of possibility. As business owners and coaches, we have the opportunity to invite people into a new paradigm of what is possible. There is something we see that others haven't yet trained their eye to see... stay present and aware of your invitation.
