Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Chelsea Wilson, Founder of SeaChel Coaching, located in Tacoma, WA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

SeaChel Coaching is a combination of health and life coaching that helps create transformations that last in a way that’s easy and maybe even a little fun at times. To put it simply, my goal is to help my clients get to a point where they can be different without having to think about being different. My clients are people who are ready to say yes to themselves and take the steps necessary to start making real changes on their weight journey through habit change coaching methods.

Tell us about yourself

Don’t let my size fool you. I’ve always been VERY passionate about all things food and cooking. I also love helping people and have always been the friend you can go to for anything. After spending most of my 20s broke, I came up with the idea of helping people create budgets and learn spending habits that could allow them to eat well without breaking the bank.

I stumbled across a health and life coaching training program, and it helped me realize I could help people create healthy habits around nutrition in cost-effective ways for a living! That’s when SeaChel Coaching was born. I’m also a very proud fur mom to my cat, Lilly.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I would have to say my biggest accomplishment is actually starting my business. There was a lot of criticism about coaching not being a “real career” or that my goals around it were unrealistic at the beginning. There was also a few points where I wanted to give up on the idea, and I did for a couple of months in 2022.

After a much-needed vacation, I gained the clarity I needed to reconnect with my passion and anchor in my motivators. I created my brand, applied for my DBA, and haven’t looked back. Getting it started in the first place and sticking to it has been one of my biggest accomplishments in life so far.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Battling the self-doubt. The saying that you are your worst critic is a bit of an understatement when you’re starting a business. Keep going. Push through that negative self-talk and challenge it. You’re worth the life you dream of. Never forget that.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Do your research. Every area has different policies and regulations for small businesses, and those have a tendency to vary depending on what kind of business you’re running. Make sure you do your research so you can run a legitimate business and your dream can thrive.
  2. Write down what drives you and post it somewhere you’ll see every day. It’ll help you stay focused on your goals, especially on your bad days.
  3. Stay true to yourself and your vision. It’s always a good idea to shadow those who are where you want to be as long as you don’t try to become them and change your vision to fit theirs. Your unique vision is a gift, don’t be afraid to share it!!
