What's your business, and who are your customers?
Savory Station is a food truck that specializes in grilled sandwiches and mac and cheese. We operate all over Centre County, primarily at local breweries, wineries, cideries, and farmers markets. We also do private events like parties, weddings, and work events.
Tell us about yourself
Cooking has always been a passion of mine! Before opening Savory Station in June 2021. I have been in the early childhood education field for more than a decade. Although I loved working with children, cooking was my happy place, and when I had the opportunity to turn that into a full-time job, I jumped on it! It has absolutely been the best decision that I have ever made. My motivation comes from making people happy with the food.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
As a business owner, my biggest accomplishment is hands down, the positive feedback that I get from my customers. When a customer comes back to me after eating and says, "That was the best mac and cheese I've ever had!" it just warms my heart. Knowing that I've made someone's day through food is by far the best compliment I could get.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
One of the hardest things about being a business owner is finding the right balance between work and home life. As a business owner, you make your own schedule, and that can be challenging at times. It's a lot of trial and error, but it all works out in the end.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Top 3 tips I'd give to someone starting a business:
- Marketing. You can never overshare your product, and social media is a great tool for promoting.
- Build a solid foundation. A good business starts with a good foundation.
- Take time for yourself. Balancing work and home life can be stressful. Don't forget to take your time.
