Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in training and development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Sarah Kolb, COO and CEO of Adventures in Training with a Purpose & Aurelius, located in Wexford, PA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Adventures in Training with a Purpose (ATP) is a 501c(3) nonprofit providing functional performance training and adventures to those with complex medical conditions. Aurelius, a specialized division of ATP, serves active military, veterans, and first responders suffering PTS and Depression through our Mind, Body, and Soul Regimen.

Tell us about yourself

ATP was founded in 2015 by my father-in-law, Jon Kolb, to restore quality of life through movement to those suffering from Chronic Complex Medical conditions and who no longer have the benefit of paid rehabilitation. My father was a veteran, so I have a passion for serving the Veteran and First Responder community. In 2021, our team developed Aurelius to serve the tactical community who are suffering mental health and physical challenges through methods we are passionate about in our Mind, Body, Soul Program. The Aurelius program includes Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, Counseling, Physical Performance Training, and Adventures. Each member of our team has unique gifts, and with the same values and passion for serving, we are able to provide people the freedom to move and build the resilience to work through psychological and physical obstacles.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Our team's biggest accomplishment has been developing, launching, and serving the tactical community through Aurelius. We've seen lives transformed. Being able to provide this program to those who have sacrificed our freedom free of charge is what fuels us each day.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Our team is passionate about helping others heal and reach their goals. We have learned that in order to best serve others, we must also treat our minds and body with compassion. By putting boundaries in place, we can move forward with grace and excellence.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Identify Your Strengths and Be Aware of Your Weaknesses.
  2. Be a Sponge. Listen and Learn.
