Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Sarah Berneche, Founder of Sarah Berneche Nutrition, located in Toronto, ON, CA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I'm a weight-inclusive, anti-diet Registered Holistic Nutritionist, Certified Intuitive Eating Counsellor, and Nutrition Therapist helping people stop dieting and feel comfortable in their natural body size. I specialize in working with trauma around food and the body.

Tell us about yourself

I got started working in the wellness industry for what I consider the wrong reasons - I was incredibly disordered with food. But as I went through my own healing and repair, I found my "calling," you might say, and began to help others accept their natural body size and repair their relationship with food. A couple of years ago, I started working more closely around trauma pertaining to food and the body. Watching people transform is incredibly meaningful to me.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

The incredible client feedback I've received over the years. I've published a book, launched programs, and given talks across the country to big-name companies, but my relationships with my clients are the most important to me. Knowing I've helped clients fully recover from disordered eating after struggling for years, often decades, is incredibly meaningful.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Balancing working on your business. And in your business - prioritizing your own needs and self-care, and growing practice in alignment with your core values.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Focus on growing a strong network of referrals - businesses are built on relationships regardless of your industry.
  2. Do your market research and discover what your potential customers/clients need.
  3. The riches are in the niches, as they say, which doesn't mean that you have to be super niched down, but it does help to specialize and to get good at one thing.
