Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in training and education but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Sandra Anne Ghouse, Founder of 3E Training and Education Sdn Bhd, located in Selangor, Malaysia.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are Empowerment Specialists specializing in People Development and Productivity Improvement Programs for individuals, SMEs, MNCs, GLCs, the marginalized & refugees helping them become more engaged and empowered. We design, conduct, and drive awareness and transformation of these programs.

Tell us about yourself

I am the Founder and MD of 3E. I've worked rank and file from being a chambermaid in a hotel right after high school to room reservation and then front office, then joined a group of companies as a receptionist, became the PA to the Chairman, started their admin & personnel dept, was made a director of the company and ran their advertising arm, started their training company and now I own my own training, development and transformation company. It has been a 36year career journey to date, I started this business because I believe that everyone has a talent, but many do not realize or know that they can go to the marketplace and Generate Income From their Talents (GIFT). So via our Engagement, Empowerment, and Enhancement (3E) programs, we help create awareness, transform and sustain higher productivity, achievement, and happiness in people and companies. What motivates me each day to do what I do is my passion for helping people "fish" rather than "give them fish" so that they can generate better results for themselves and achieve a better quality of life. I feel that this world is a damaged world and that many have forgotten the fundamentals of life, so I would like to help those who are searching, struggling, stressed, and sick to find more peace and feel more empowered to live their purpose of life and help make a difference in making this world a better place.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest achievement to date is during the pandemic; we did not reduce the salaries of our employees or have to cut any heads. Instead, we grew tremendously in our revenue and doubled our headcount by adopting new strategies. Today we have an all-inclusive and diverse team with people of all ages, genders, and ethnicities - helping them grow and transform to achieve their own dreams as well. It is truly a win-win situation.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

There's so much to do and so little time, plus there is a need to keep ahead as the competition is strong and the needs of the market are vastly growing. We need to keep upgrading our talents, reward them, and keep pushing for more growth and progress.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Research and plan well first - enroll in programs to help you do this well.
  2. Have the right mentors to guide you in starting and driving your business.
  3. Know the critical elements and talents that you need for your business to be successful - you need to be an all-rounder and put together a team of core talents to help take care and manage the critical areas (for this, you do need resources and at least a 3year plan to sustain whilst growing).
