Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in coaching but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Daisy De La Cruz Alonzo, Founder of Sana Mente Health, located in Austin, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a licensed Health + Wealth Coach and while that sounds kinda fancy, what it simply means is that I help women and families get on the same page and work towards a common goal. This could mean in their finances, communication, with their faith, careers or in their parenting.

My husband often joins me as a fellow coach and together, our services have really expanded in the financial arena which is an ESSENTIAL topic of conversation in the home, seeing as how finances is the No.2 cause for divorce in American homes.

Tell us about yourself

I was a marketing professional for ten years before becoming a licensed health coach. To be completely transparent, my husband and I suffered a miscarriage early in our marriage, and following the birth of our firstborn, I just knew I wanted to squeeze every moment out of motherhood with him. So I left my corporate job and began working as a coach, alongside my full-time role as Mama. Through that transformative season, I realized how critical community is for women, so I began group coaching sessions with other new moms in the area. Now in my as I near my 7th year of business, I've had the pleasure of working with many women and families in different stages of life! From expecting moms to women with grandkids and everything in between. Across the board, the thing that drives me most is seeing my clients experience "aha" moments that allow them to grow in whatever area of life they choose.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is physically seeing hope in my client's faces. That looks different for everyone, but the sense of relief in knowing there is a "way out" is universal. When my clients experience that- I do a little happy dance inside!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

There are many challenges on the road to ownership, and I'm happy to say I've experienced most of them lol. From belief and self worth to imposter syndrome, there isn't a shortage of things that can get in your way when your eyes are set on a prize.

In this season, a challenge for me is time management in the midst of (abrupt) life demands. I have three small children and two elderly parents who all require my time and attention in one way or another. My faith and my husband are what keep me grounded the most. I truly couldn't do what I do without those two pillars in my life.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Get clear on what you want, short term and long term.
  2. Get clear on how it will serve others.
  3. Mental toughness is so underrated. Decided to never stop learning and growing and surround yourself with others who think the same way!
  4. You won’t get too far if you’re consumed by others opinions.
