What's your business, and who are your customers?

At Samsara Cycle, we make fashion-forward and technical cycling apparel for women. Our customers are all women who cycle and want to look and feel great in flattering garments that allow them to express their own personal style.

Tell us about yourself

I started cycling when I moved back to Vancouver in 2015 after living abroad for 28 years. I was frustrated with the lack of interesting apparel options. Everything was either black or covered in logos or looked like it was cut for a man's body.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Creating a brand that has a very loyal following and growing that every year.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

All the administration of running a business - banking, tax remittances, and general paperwork gets in the way of enjoying the day-to-day.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Keep it very simple in the beginning. Resist the urge to add products/services until you've really nailed your original offerings.
  2. Be very clear on who your customer is. What are their wants, needs, frustrations, or pain points?
  3. Surround yourself with good/smart people.
