What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business as a weight-loss nutritionist is formed around helping other women avoid or heal from what I have been through with weight loss. This includes having a stressful weight-loss journey, tearing away from diet culture, and being able to keep the weight off. I work with women all around the world who are moms, a woman on the go with no time to meal prep, a woman who has done a bunch of diets and still can't seem to get the results she wants, and any women who just wants to lose weight by eating foods they enjoy instead of overly restricting themselves. I've been through it all myself before studying nutrition, and that's exactly why I created my program, Weight-Loss with Less Stress, to support other women on their journey and give them the tools needed to be successful.

Tell us about yourself

Before going to school for nutrition, I had tried every diet, every diet pill, cut carbs out of my diet, etc. I had an unhealthy mindset around food. After studying nutrition, I started shifting my mindset to how food can fuel and help me. Help me become more confident, feel better, have more energy! What motivates me each day in my business is when I get messages from clients of their achievements...or hear about others struggling, it makes me just want to help everyone that I can who struggles with their weight. Food is fuel and makes us feel good, and we shouldn't be scared of it or feel guilty about eating any of it.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner has been having my business. To be honest. I've had a virtual company for about five years now, and every year that goes by, I grow, and I improve. I just look at how far I've come, how much I've put into this, and how much I myself have grown. I focus on constantly improving myself and my business, focusing on the people I help.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things about being a business owner is the downtime with few sales. I love my clients and love helping people, but at the same time, it is a business, and business does have slow periods. But that's exactly what they are...slow PERIODS... Just like anything in life, there are ups and downs. You only fail when you are down if you give up. You succeed when you CONTINUE and push through the slow periods, bringing you right back uphill.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Create a business plan - what makes you different, and how can you serve someone and help improve their life?
  2. Hire a business coach - I have not had a business coach the entire time I've been in business, but I think this is an important investment. You CAN learn everything alone, but hiring out helps speed things along, you learn from a professional in the field, and you have extra support along the way for questions. You save time, aka can do more important money-making things in that time you save.
  3. Enjoy the entire process - Business is HARD. You need to focus on your customer and give everything; however, save some for yourself and your life. You need to be able to take constructive criticism and improve. Every step of the way, celebrate and enjoy. Celebrate your first sale, your first 1K month, everything, and thank everyone that helps you build this dream of yours.
