What's your business, and who are your customers?
I own a boutique digital marketing agency focused on developing and executing effective digital marketing strategies for small and medium-sized businesses. I also work as a strategic business consultant for entrepreneurs looking to start and scale their own service-based businesses.
Tell us about yourself
I started my business by accident. A friend asked if I could create social media posts for their small business, and we have grown and evolved over the last nine years from that point. I always wanted to have a business that lights me up every day while also allowing me to build the life I want outside of work.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Scaling to multiple six figures while being the primary caregiver for my daughter for a year after she was born while working on my business 15 hours or less per week.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
You have to be your own motivator and cheerleader. If you don't want to do something, no one is here to make you do it, which is incredibly freeing but also requires a huge amount of self-discipline in order to succeed.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Just start. You will learn more by trying and making mistakes than by planning and "learning" forever.
- Prioritize revenue-generating activities. If you don't know what those are for your business, do some research and start trying things to see what works for you.
- Radical personal responsibility. As the business owner, everything starts and stops with you. Get used to that because it will never change.
