Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Susan Amy Hunter, Owner of Sacred Soul Ventures, LLC., located in Willimantic, CT, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am an Evolutionary Astrologer, a Certified and Credentialed Holistic Life Coach, and a Reiki Master. I serve people who want to peel back a lifetime of labels and expectations so that they can rediscover who they are. I create a safe space for them to unleash their possibilities.

In Evolutionary Astrology, your birth chart is your soul's map for its evolution in this lifetime. It points to where you tend to self-sabotage and where your gifts are. This is deep work. I use coaching within the astrology reading as a means to help my clients process the information. We all have free will, and we get to make choices that feel good to us. Many of these clients continue with coaching so that they can make lasting changes in their lives. Reiki helps to support them energetically as they move through their journeys.

Tell us about yourself

I found coaching and pursued astrology professionally after my adopted mother passed away. We had a challenging relationship. I was working as a non-profit Finance Director and had my MBA. I was very successful by most standards, but not in her eyes. After she died, I felt the burden of expectation and of not being enough start to lift. Every day after that, I made a decision to live my life in a way that lights me up and brings me joy.

I left my corporate, non-profit job in July of 2021 after my biological mother unexpectedly passed away from cancer. We had only been in each other's lives for four years but were extremely close. After she passed, I decided that life was too short. It was a clear message for me to live my life based on my dreams and desires and no one else's. After six months of shrinking away from Sacred Soul Ventures, LLC, I embraced it and stepped into being a full-time business owner and entrepreneur.

What motivates me every day are the people I work with and the people I collaborate with. I appreciate waking up every day and having the freedom to run my business in a way that is true to who I am. I meet the most amazing people. To hold space and bear witness to my client's transformations is what makes my heart sing. Many have gone on to start their own businesses or switch careers. Regardless of what they choose to do, they are living more aligned and fulfilling lives.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

It's hard to choose one. The little wins are as valuable as the larger ones, as they create the momentum to move forward. What's most important is that I've learned not to force decisions. I sit quietly every morning and feel into the direction I need to go. I've found that opportunities have come to me instead of having to chase and grind. These opportunities are so in tune with the essence of who I am that they are win/win for all involved.

I am celebrating two years in business, which is huge. I am in the process of rebranding and re-launching my business. I felt that moving into my third year that this was the right thing to do. I'll give you a sneak peek at the name: Hunter Moon Astrology and Coaching, LLC. I'm really excited about this rebrand and can't wait for the official launch.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Feeling like you have to do everything and have it all figured out. That was the toughest thing for me. Early on, that put me in fear mode. I was reacting rather than really understanding what was best for me and my business. My energy was scattered, and I was burnt out and drained. There are so many people that are willing to help. Just ask. Network. Reach out. Build relationships. Don't feel like you have to have it all figured out. The self-discovery that occurs during the journey is priceless.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Don't feel that you have to do all the things. You don't have to be on every social media platform. You don't need to be on any of them if you don't want to! Choose a way to put yourself out there that feels good and natural. When it's forced and uncomfortable, it comes across in your content.
  2. Get really clear on your values and your mission. It became clear to me that freedom was something that I value. The way that I was running my business felt anything but. This is your business. You get to decide which of your values to express and experience through it.
  3. I highly recommend getting a business coach or mentor. If you can't afford one, the SCORE program offers mentors and subject matter experts for free. I've hired a coach and used SCORE. Both have been extremely valuable to me.
