Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Ryan Nosak, Owner of RyNo Strength, located in Chicago, IL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

RyNo Strength provides an unparalleled VIP fitness coaching experience focused on helping busy, working professionals look good and feel good, thanks to the proven successful MOVE method.

Tell us about yourself

At the young age of just five years old, I lost one of the most influential people in my life to cancer, my mom. Even though I had a strong support circle, I began coping with my emotions through my love of food which quickly led to poor nutrition and habits. By the time I reached junior high, I was 5 foot 6 with a 40-inch waist. Doctors urged me to take action as I was on a downward spiral after being diagnosed with high blood pressure and along with other health complications. I discovered fitness at a young age, and it completely transformed my life. Not only did my health improve, but I also gained greater confidence in myself. I quickly learned fitness could be one of the most positive habits in a person’s life. Today, I help busy professionals who struggle with overeating and help them make fitness part of their daily habits. RyNo Strength is dedicated to transforming the lives of others, both mentally and physically, just as I had done once myself.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I left college athletics, where I worked as a Division 1 Strength and Conditioning Coach for almost 9 years, to run my own training business in the midst of Covid-19 in 2020. What a time to start a business! To this date, I have helped over 300 individuals reach their health and fitness goals, and that number continues to grow!

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Realizing that every business decision depends on you. Coaching clients is just one piece of the puzzle. Marketing, advertising, strategy, and finance are all areas that are extremely important for growth and keeping your business alive.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Niche down. This seems uncomfortable, but if you aim to appeal to everyone, then you will appeal to no one.
  2. Hire a business mentor, someone who has been there before and has successfully operated businesses similar to yours. This will cut down on a significant amount of headaches and help you direct your focus on the areas that actually matter.
  3. Use who you are to set yourself apart and build a brand. There is only one of you in this world, and that is your greatest marketing tool.
