Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in real estate but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Ryan Zomorodi, Co-Founder and COO of Real Estate Skills, Inc., located in San Diego, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Real Estate Skills is an online real estate education company that helps everyday people start and grow real estate businesses. With thousands of students nationally, Real Estate Skills offers educational programs and coaching in the areas of house flipping, wholesaling, and real estate investing.

Tell us about yourself

After graduating from college, my first job was in soft drink corporate sales at a Fortune 50 company. Working 12-hour days in a job that pushed me to master skills that I knew had little value outside of the narrow corporate ladder I was climbing wore me out. I knew I was born to achieve so much more than the job had to offer, even though it was considered a "dream job" by many of my peers.

This experience lit a fire inside of me to pursue entrepreneurship, which pushed me to grow into the best version of myself. Real estate investing has been the business model that made the most sense long-term, and learning those skills allowed me to achieve financial freedom myself. I'm motivated to help others escape the corporate grind by simplifying real estate investing education and making it accessible for those who want to take the leap.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My company, Real Estate Skills, has worked directly with thousands of people all over the nation who aspire to start and grow real estate investing businesses. It is with great pleasure that I'm able to help others who are still looking to break away from the 9-5 grind that I'm so familiar with, get educated, take action, and create their own income on their own terms without having to report to a boss. This enables our clients to live a more fulfilled life, create financial abundance, and spend more time with their families, among other things. Many of our students have left their 9 to 5 jobs, become full-time real estate investors, and changed their lives entirely for the better by implementing our program.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Saying "no" to opportunities is a constant battle, as there are shiny objects and opportunities to make a buck that come across my desk all the time. The ability to stay locked in on a long-term goal and sustain focus on our mission to help people take action in real estate is what allows me to perform at a high level without distractions.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Get educated, find a mentor, and take consistent action. What you do is more important than how well you do it. Make sure you're building a ladder on the right wall; otherwise, you'll end up working hard without much to show for it in the end.
