Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Adebola Adewumi, Owner of Rush Bowls PDX, located in Hillsboro, OR, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Rush Bowls are the perfect blend of all-natural fruits and veggies topped with crunchy, organic granola, a drizzle of honey, and your choice of fresh fruits and other toppings. Packed with nutrients and protein and fully customizable, Rush Bowls offer healthy, delicious alternatives to standard fast-casual fare.
Our customers are folks that are trying to eat healthier but are always on the go... in a Rush, grab a Bowl. We also cater to athletes, fitness folks, and young adults that want something lighter or healthier.
Tell us about yourself
This (Rush Bowls) is actually my second business. My first business is a fitness business, but one of the biggest parts of health and fitness is nutrition. A lot of folks are too busy to get to the gym and are also too busy to cook healthy food. Rush Bowls are nutritious yet delicious, and I love being able to give people alternatives to the typical fast casual/fast food offerings.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Surviving Covid as a brand new restaurant (only 6 months old before the shutdown) when many established restaurants ended up going out of business.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Customer awareness. Being a new business and a newer concept, many folks have never had a real Acai bowl. So making customers aware of what we serve, how it's a real meal, and its benefits is a long process.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Hire good people. Your business will only do as good as the people involved in the day-to-day.
- Spend time to work ON the business, not just IN the business.
- Don't start multiple businesses around the same time...you will not have enough time.
