Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in marketing but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Ruby Herrera, Founder and CEO of Ruby Creative Co., located in Arlington, TX, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
My business name is Ruby Creative Co.; it is a branding and marketing agency. My target audience is entrepreneurs, small businesses, and non-profits.
Tell us about yourself
I wanted to do something that made an income and that I was also passionate about. Since I was a little girl, I felt that creating art had always been a special part of my life. At the time, the computer industry was booming, and I combined my love for art and computers and made a career out of it. Every day, I am motivated by the people I get to work with because I get to bring their visions to life.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I've partnered with one of my clients since 2018; it's been the longest partnership that I've had since starting Ruby Creative Co. In these last six years, we've designed a collection of five English/Spanish bilingual children's illustration books.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
I am a true believer that not everyone is built to run a business, and I mean that with the best intentions. I say this because running a business takes up lots of physical and mental energy. There will be many times when giving up time with family, and friends will have to be the sacrifice you make to build a business from nothing to something.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
First things first, there will be many challenges you face through your entrepreneurial journey, but never forget to celebrate ALL wins, especially the smallest, because those will lead to the bigger goal. Second, there is no such thing as winning alone; find people who want to celebrate your business just as much as you do. And lastly, remember that being authentically yourself will open the right doors more than any degree or credential; it's important to never forget who you truly are.
