Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Candace Gegolick, Founder of Rubimed Wellness, located in Vegreville, AB, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is called Rubimed Wellness. I offer a unique holistic therapy called Rubimed Therapy that focuses on mental and emotional health and how it can affect us physically. This pre-verbal therapy is beneficial for men, women, and children of all ages and is completely natural. Rubimed therapy and the homeopathic remedies that accompany it have been proven to help resolve anxiety, depression, behavioural disorders, pain, adrenal burnout, sleep disorders, autonomic dysfunctions, allergies, skin conditions, stress, and more.

Tell us about yourself

My name is Candace Gegolick, I’m 35 years old, and I live in a small town called Vegreville, located in Alberta, Canada. I’m married, and I have three beautiful sons. My sons are my motivation every day; they keep me grounded and inspire me to help others. For as long as I can remember, I’ve always had a deep desire and drive to help people, wanting to make a difference for someone in need, and that’s why I chose to go into the medical field. I’ve been working at my local hospital in the Laboratory for 15 years, and though I still love that job, my drive only got stronger, which is what led me to Rubimed.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is just doing it! It can be scary at first to take that risk and invest your time, especially later in life after you’ve started a family, but passion and perseverance will push you forward to reach your goal.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest thing that comes with being a business owner for me is time management. I had three children and a part-time job when I started my business, so I’m quite busy these days. Having your own business doesn’t mean you go home at the end of the day and leave your work behind; there is paperwork, advertising, booking appointments, following up with patients, ordering products, etc., that must be done in between. So be prepared to commit a lot of time to your business… it will pay off.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Find something you’re passionate about; people can sense that.
  2. Surround yourself with your biggest fans; your work environment is extremely important (I’m very fortunate in this department).
  3. Make time (schedule it in if you have to) to relax and enjoy things that bring you peace. This will keep your mental health in check and leave you ready to take on each day with gratitude - your business is a reflection of your attitude!
