Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in public speaking but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Rosemarie Rossetti, CEO and Founder of Rossetti Enterprises LLC, located in Columbus, OH, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is Rossetti Enterprises LLC. I am a speaker and consultant focusing on disability inclusion, universal design, and accessibility. My clients are organizations, corporations, and individuals across many industries.

Tell us about yourself

I started my business in January 1997 by delivering training programs. On June 13, 1998, I was crushed by a 7,000-pound tree while riding my bicycle and paralyzed from the waist down. My business changed dramatically, as did my life. I began speaking and writing about the lessons I learned during my recovery. I wrote the book, "Take Back Your Life!"

My husband and I led a national design team and built North America's top-rated universal design home. The Universal Design Living Laboratory has been our home since May 2012. This home serves as a national model. I wrote the book "Universal Design Toolkit."
I am motivated each day, knowing that I live a purpose-driven life and that through my work, I make a significant positive difference in the lives of others.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is designing and building our home with my husband. The Universal Design Living Laboratory is a national demonstration home and garden. This home serves to showcase universal design and green building practices.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Marketing the business is the hardest part of being a business owner. I spend about 90% of my time creating marketing material and identifying and contacting leads. The sales process is tedious and takes persistence.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Have strong financial backing before you start a business. Be prepared to have little income when you begin.
  2. Find people with skills you don't possess and delegate work to them when funds are available.
  3. Have a daily plan of what you want to accomplish to generate revenue.re anything else you'd like to share?
