Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Rose Bélinda Napoléon, Founder of Rose Napoléon Communications, located in Montréal-Nord, QC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Hi, my name is Rose, and I am a communication professional based in Montreal, Canada. I offer lifestyle photography services and marketing & communication training for health and wellness entrepreneurs.

Tell us about yourself

I started back in 2017 with a podcast and a blog. My goal was to spotlight entrepreneurs and projects from black communities. I wanted to share positivity and help promote their businesses. I always knew communication was my passion, and I was good at telling stories in the form of content. In 2020, I discovered I loved creating training programs when the demand became important, so I started to give digital marketing and communication workshops during COVID. What I love about my work is that it can be both beautiful and valuable for my clients. I love explaining what the power of beautiful and effective communication can do for entrepreneurs. And that's what keeps me motivated!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Every time my clients thank me for taking the time to explain my process and take them to their level. When my clients try my advice and share my photography in their communications, it makes me proud!

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Time management and self-care. Opportunities are endless, and it can be tempting to say yes to everything that comes by (working all the time). But I learned with time that the more I have time for myself (to play, to read, to think), the more I focus on my expertise, and the more I provide my best work.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Make sure you start a business to help people, not boost your ego.
  2. Make a plan, but be flexible and realistic about the execution.
  3. Find a community of entrepreneurs with whom you can be comfortable (surround yourself with people that will be as caring and push you to be the best version).
