Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in ethical brands, but not sure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Marina Yanay-Triner cofounder at ROOTED, a school + community for ethical brand owners in the fashion, food and beauty industries.
Tell us all about your business...
Marina Yanay-Triner, a conscious entrepreneur, co-founded ROOTED with Terry and Tomer. It's a school + community for ethical brand owners in the fashion, food and beauty industries.
In this community, you'll get opportunities to network with fellow brand owners, and attend lectures by leading experts on marketing, sales, branding, copywriting and SO MUCH more: everything you need for a successful ethical brand + business! They are keeping it 100% FREE until the end of the year, and launching 11/11/2021.
What's your background and motivation to grow as a solopreneur?
I LOVE supporting conscious business owners like myself! I know how hard they work and how much they contribute to this world! I've founded multiple businesses, and what gets me going is knowing that this world gets filled with just a bit more empathy each time conscious businesses operate. This empathy is a heart opener and healer, and we need that! I define empathy as the ability to see people's needs (which are universal: we can all resonate with those) over strategies.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Being fully present in my business and putting my heart and soul into it, without regrets for doing shady shit ;) I'm totally transparent, and stand behind my actions and decisions!
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a solopreneur?
A deregulated nervous system! There were times when I spent hours in bed dealing with the fear and sadness of being rejected, all until I learned to be fully present and peaceful.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run or grow a small business today?
1. Create a list of value to live by and consider them with every decision. It may feel tedious, but this way, there are no regrets and it's a lighthouse/north star for you!
2. Work with a badass team you adore and invest in your relationships. It'll get you up in the morning!
3. Regulate your nervous system. Business is a roller coaster that you don't want to ride. You want to be the calm presence, watching it from the side and loving even the difficult moments!
If there was one thing you could do repeatedly to help grow your business, what would it be?
Connect with amazing, ethical and conscious humans and network with them!
What are some of the things you put in place to maintain a healthy work/life balance and to keep it all together?
I pay attention to my body. When I want to rest, I do it! I spend tons of time in nature, and it's so healing.
Who are some of your favorite entrepreneurs? Do you have any must not miss business resources that you'd recommend?
Rich Roll, Jessica Thomas, Mark Groves, The Happy Pear, Dominick Thompson, Miyoko Schinner; favorite books: anything by Peter A Levine, Dianne Poole Heller, Susan Anderson
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
