My personal "lived experienced," overcoming "mental health traumas," surviving a "natural disaster" (Hurricane Katrina), my chronic health issues, and as my mother's caregiver, for 14 years, until her transition. I learned how to navigate life transitions placing me on this trajectory into the world of healthcare, "navigating systems of care" for myself and my mom. I learned to use my voice to ensure quality services were provided, advocating and working collaboratively with various healthcare disciplines, teams, maximizing appropriate services to accomplish health goals and receive quality care.

These firsthand experiences awaken my passion for educating those in the healthcare profession about disability awareness, "navigating systems of care," serving the most vulnerable as an advocate, and empowering those most vulnerable we support, with more compassion, recognizing abilities, taking a holistic "person-centered" planning approach by becoming knowledgeable about disabilities and appropriate resources to maximize "quality of care" and independence. This is what motivates me to do what I do.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner has been carrying on my parent's legacy through work. I do the core values lessons I learned as a person of FAITH to believe that what I'm doing is making a difference not just in my life but in many others.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest part of being a business owner is believing that all the needs and costs to operate a business will be met (operating budget, staff, etc.) and you're stepping into every role, being stretched to capacity; however, I realized it's a part of "growing process" and when you have a passion for what you do your motivated to continue through the process.

  1. Have a passion for what you're doing (your business).
  2. Research the business industry and try to niche down a specialty.
  3. Get a Business Mentor, connect with someone who is doing what you want to do for counsel, etc.
