Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Srikrishnan Ganesan, CEO and Co-Founder of Rocketlane, located in Lehi, UT, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are a Client Onboarding and Professional Services Automation platform with a unique customer-centric experience that helps companies run client projects in a professional, fast, and efficient manner. Our customers include all kinds of B2B software and services businesses that need to run client-facing projects - whether for onboarding or ongoing professional service delivery.

Tell us about yourself

Rocketlane is my second SaaS start-up. My previous start-up journey ended in an acquisition, post which I felt we learned a fair bit about scaling a SaaS business and also witnessed the challenges of implementation projects first-hand. So we decided to take on client-facing project delivery as a space and go after implementation teams and professional services teams across companies. Building a world-class product, team, and company is something I'm proud of, and helping our team achieve their full potential motivates me.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

We very quickly have emerged as the leader in our category, and also went beyond our product to establish a community, a 2-day conference, and have championed some amazing thought leadership in our space. I'm proud of how we've helped create this new category and also owned the mindshare for the category.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things as a business owner and leader is to achieve the right balance. For team members we need to ensure we're creating the right opportunities for every team member and also helping them recognise those opportunities and grow to realise their potential. Likewise, we need to take care of our customers and their needs while also balancing the needs of our investors, providing capital for the business.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Make sure you keep re-evaluating if you are building your business in a space that has great potential. Half your success is in choosing the right problem to solve.
  2. Think about your decisions long term - try to understand how things will play out based on your actions today.
  3. Carry a growth mentality. Don't let things you aren't good at or don't know today bog you down. Try to ensure you are working through your own knowledge gaps and setting an example for the team - by either hiring or learning new things yourself.
